About Tidecoin

Tidecoin is a post-quantum cryptocurrency that has been in continuous operation since December 27, 2020. Every transaction on the network is signed with Falcon-512, a lattice-based digital signature scheme selected by NIST for standardization as FN-DSA (Draft FIPS 206). The project was born from a direct response to the quantum computing threat to cryptocurrency — its genesis block message references the University of Science and Technology of China's photonic quantum supremacy demonstration.

How did Tidecoin start?

On December 9, 2020, a photonic quantum computer named Jiuzhang demonstrated quantum computational advantage — processing a task in 200 seconds that would take a classical supercomputer 2.5 billion years. This event underscored the urgency of quantum-safe cryptography.

Eighteen days later, on December 27, 2020, Tidecoin's genesis block was mined. Its timestamp message reads:

spectrum.ieee.org 09/Dec/2020 Photonic Quantum Computer Displays 'Supremacy' Over Supercomputers.

The project was first announced on BitcoinTalk on January 4, 2021. Since then, the network has operated continuously for years with no publicly disclosed security incidents. Operational-evidence claims should point readers to /status for timestamped verification.
